Mitratech

Primary category: vendor-risk. Also listed in enterprise-grc.

One-liner — Mitratech is an Austin-based, PE-owned legal, risk and HR software company. Since October 2024 it has owned Prevalent, a long-standing questionnaire-plus-monitoring third-party risk management (TPRM) platform that it now sells as “Mitratech Prevalent” next to its policy, compliance and business-continuity products.

What it does — For this wiki, the relevant product is Prevalent TPRM, which covers the vendor lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding. The vendor-stated capabilities are:

  • Assessments. A library of 800+ standardised questionnaire templates, a vendor portal for evidence upload, and automated chasing (“ARIES-powered survey automation”). “AI FastTrack” pre-fills a new assessment from up to 15 of a vendor’s earlier completed questionnaires.
  • Vendor intelligence network. Pre-built vendor risk profiles and “thousands” of completed, standardised assessments, so common vendors do not need to be assessed from scratch. This is the same exchange idea as whistic’s profile network.
  • Continuous monitoring (“Vendor Threat Monitor”). Adverse media (30,000+ sources), PEP and sanctions lists, financial health, cyber, ESG and regulatory signals, with AI filtering of false positives. “Technology Tags” map which vendors depend on which technologies, for fourth-party concentration events such as the July 2024 CrowdStrike outage.
  • Scoring and contracts. Inherent and residual risk scoring with AI-assisted scoring escalated to human review, SLA/KPI/KRI tracking, and contract-risk analysis (“Contract Essentials”, DocuSign integration).
  • Managed services. Mitratech staff can run all or part of the TPRM programme, which makes it a partial analogue to venminder’s analyst-performed reviews.

Mitratech also sells policy management, internal controls, ESG, business continuity (Preparis), legal matter/spend management, and HR compliance. The 2024 deal was pitched as tying TPRM into “one enterprise risk framework” with those products. That is the reason for the enterprise-grc cross-list.

Naming / provenance — Prevalent was an independent TPRM vendor. A secondary source reports Insight Partners sold it to Mitratech. Mitratech announced the purchase on 2024-10-02, together with Preparis, and prevalent.net now redirects to mitratech.com/products/prevalent (checked 2026-10-24). Customers contract with Mitratech. “Prevalent” survives as the product name.

Slug choice: the page is slugged mitratech (the company), not prevalent. The reasons: (1) the survey respondent wrote “Mitratech”; (2) Prevalent no longer exists as a separate company or domain; (3) one page can carry both the TPRM product and Mitratech’s broader GRC suite without forking. Prevalent is recorded in aka:.

Ownership & viability — pe-owned.

  • Mitratech’s owners. Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (OTPP) agreed a strategic investment announced 2021-03-24. Hg, majority owner since 2017, kept a minority stake and TA Associates sold out. Secondary sources (Private Equity Wire, PitchBook) report the deal completed 2021-05-18 at about US$1.55B enterprise value, with OTPP holding control.
  • Possible sale. Reuters reported on 2025-02-06 that OTPP was exploring a sale at more than $4B including debt, had hired Lazard, and that a deal was “not imminent”. The report cited roughly $230M of trailing EBITDA and 20,000+ client organisations. No buyer or completed sale was found as of 2026-10-24.
  • Prevalent acquisition. Announced as completed on 2024-10-02. Price not disclosed.
  • Viability. Viability is not in question. Mitratech is a large, cash-generative roll-up (16+ acquisitions). For customers, the risk is a change of owner: a new sponsor could reprice, re-platform or re-bundle Prevalent. Recheck by 2027-04-24.

Positioning & differentiators — challenger in vendor-risk: an established, broad TPRM platform, now one module of a larger suite rather than a pure-play. platform-module in enterprise-grc: Mitratech’s risk and compliance products are bought as a suite, not on the strength of the TPRM module alone.

  • Versus processunity: the closest like-for-like. Both are questionnaire-workflow TPRM platforms with a content exchange (ProcessUnity’s Global Risk Exchange, Prevalent’s vendor intelligence network). Mitratech’s pitch is the surrounding legal and compliance suite. ProcessUnity’s is TPRM depth.
  • Versus bitsight and securityscorecard: a different instrument. Prevalent is an assessment-and-workflow system of record with broad non-cyber monitoring (sanctions, financial, ESG). The ratings vendors score suppliers’ external attack surface. Firms often run one of each.
  • Versus AI-native newcomers (viso-trust, safe-security): Prevalent is questionnaire-centred with AI layered on top (FastTrack, AI scoring). The newcomers try to skip questionnaires by reading vendor artifacts or using agents. Prevalent offers more maturity and content, and less of a rethink of the workflow.
  • Managed-service option: you can buy the programme operated for you. Of the peers above, only venminder and drawbridge lean as heavily on people.

Who should choose them / anti-fit — Fits a mid-sized or larger firm with a defined vendor inventory and a compliance or procurement owner that wants a questionnaire-plus-monitoring TPRM system of record. It fits especially well if the firm already uses Mitratech for legal, policy or compliance, or wants staff to help run the programme. The one survey respondent (in production) fits this profile. Anti-fit:

  • A small fund with fewer than ~50 material vendors. A specialist service (drawbridge) or a lighter tool will cost less and need less administration.
  • A firm that mainly wants continuous outside-in cyber scoring. Use a ratings vendor.
  • A firm already standardised on servicenow, archer or onetrust GRC with a TPRM module. A separate TPRM platform duplicates the vendor record.

Known weaknesses / gotchas —

  • Ownership overhang. A sale process was reported in February 2025. Price multi-year renewals with a change-of-control scenario in mind.
  • Post-acquisition integration. Mitratech promised roadmap changes, including centralised vendor management and tie-ins to its enterprise risk products. Ask what has changed in the Prevalent product and support model since 2024-10, and whether any functions are being migrated to other Mitratech modules.
  • Vendor metrics are marketing. “44% faster risk identification” and “50% less manual work” are customer-reported figures on the vendor’s page.
  • Analyst recognition is vendor-cited. The four-year Quadrant Knowledge Solutions SPARK Matrix “Leader” claim was not checked.

Deployment & data handling — SaaS. Vendor questionnaires, SOC reports, contracts and risk findings about your suppliers are stored in Mitratech’s cloud. Vendors log into a portal to respond. Hosting regions, retention, sub-processors, and whether customer data trains the AI features are unverified. The product page gives no deployment detail.

Integrations & partnerships — DocuSign (contract analysis) is named on the product page. Prevalent historically advertised integrations with GRC, ITSM and procurement systems, but the current list was not verified on this pass. MCP support unverified (not expected).

Compliance & FS traction — The product page has a Financial Services industry section and a testimonial from a financial-services compliance executive. FS traction is claimed, with no named hedge-fund or asset-manager references. Certifications (SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001) are unverified because none are listed on the product page. The workflow and evidence retention map to regulator expectations on outsourcing oversight (SEC/FINRA vendor oversight, DORA ICT third-party registers for EU entities), but this mapping is not vendor-verified.

Commercial — Pricing not public. Sold as a subscription, typically scaled by number of vendors and modules, with managed services as an add-on (unverified).

Survey note — 2026-10 CTO survey write-in: 1 respondent, in production, under Q55 Third-Party Risk (TPRM), written as “Mitratech”.
